A Visit to Kinmen and Penghu, Taiwan (Part One)
Original article from AmoyTrip--Let's make travel easy!
Kinmen, also know as Quemoy, is jut 30 minutes ferry from Amoy (Xiamen), Fujian Province of China. However, as a local Amoinese, it takes 30 years for me to visit Kinmen for the first time. Though Kinmen is so closed to Amoy, China. Due to the politics, Kinmen is belong to Taiwan and It keeps the traditional culture and nature well which is quite different from Amoy. So we decide to apply document to visit Kinmen and Penghu during the National day of PRC.
Our plan is to visit Kinmen on 2nd October. But as thousands of Chinese people would visit Taiwan during the national day holidays. Our documents were delay and released on the afterroon of 2nd October, this made me have to change our plan and re-arrange our accommodations in Kinmen.
We got up early at 6:30am in the morning of 3rd October so as to take the first ferry departing at 8am. My brother drove we family to the Wutong Port which is around 40 minutes from my home to Wutong port.
As we did not book the ferry in advance, we had to buy ferry tickets from the counter. Luckily, there is still some seats for us. We also changed some New Taiwan dollars from the agent counters. It is said that the rate here is better than in Kinmen. The exchange rate that day is 100RMB=478NT. While we would left the agent counter, the agent consultant asked we to help them took 2 bags of mushroom to a guy in Kinmen, and we could earn 200NT. We not, so we are happy to did that.
The ferry we take is named New Wuyi (新武夷) which is very clean and comfortable. If you are too early to take your breakfast, you can order some noodles in the ferry.
